Our Story

How it all started...

Several years before the East Brainerd Baptist Church was organized, the Lord laid the need for a church in this community upon the heart of the Reverend John J. Smith. In November 1950, a tent revival was held by the Reverend Smith in the area of the present location of the church. The two lots on which the church now stands was purchased in the spring of 1951 from Mr. J. T. Logan for $800. At the close of the revival ten men stood to vote for a church to be organized. Prayer meetings were held in homes while the church was being built. From several sources of information, regular services were held in a tent on the church property for approximately a year. The first Sunday School service was held the first Sunday in September 1951, probably in the tent.

Expanding the vision...

In Fall of 2020, coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, East Brainerd Baptist called Rob Anderssen to shepherd us. He brings optimistic hope that the church's best days are ahead, not behind. The days are dark, but that is when God's light shines brightest. In Fall of 2023 we called David Baalbergen to shepherd families with youth and children. He brings youthful enthusiasm and a heart for revitalization.

Where we are headed...

In this "Post-Christian" era, we believe generations not raised in church are going to discover Jesus with new eyes and new fervor. This world offers no hope, no peace, no truth, and no joy. East Brainerd wants to be on the forefront of God's move to draw hearts to Him: offering True Hope, True Peace, and True Joy in the only One Who can provide it: Jesus Christ.

Chattanooga and its surrounding areas are attracting relocators from all over the world due to its growing industry and natural beauty. East Brainerd Baptist sees an opportunity to provide Christian community to those new to the area, or to younger generations who crave interpersonal relationships. Won't you join God's mission here at East Brainerd Baptist?
