Mark 3:7-21

Feb 1, 2026    David Baalbergen

What does it mean to belong—really belong?

In Mark 3:7–21, Jesus stands at the height of popularity. Crowds press in from every direction. Demons cry out. Expectations rise. And yet, Jesus is not driven by the crowd. Instead, He slows everything down and does something deeply intentional: He forms a family.

In this sermon, Pastor David Baalbergen walks us through how Christ:

Is not controlled by people or dark powers

Sovereignly calls and appoints the Twelve, forming a new covenant community

Experiences rejection from His own family—and still opens His arms to invite us into His

This is a message for anyone who’s felt overlooked, displaced, or wounded by family. It’s also a reminder for the church: we are not built by hype, numbers, or human effort—but by the calling, authority, and grace of Jesus Christ.

A family not formed by shared DNA, but by the blood of the Son.

A family where shame dies at the foot of the cross.

A family you are invited into.
